On April 26th, 1986 a Nuclear Reactor in Chernobyl, Ukraine had a nuclear meltdown caused by a fire, and the resulting explosion led to radioactive fission being released into the atmosphere, creating a 20 mile perimeter of radioactive air. 30 years later, the area around the powerplant is still dangerous. This can have some serious effects on the climate.
The surrounding area of Chernobyl was affected by radioactive fallout in various ways. Surrounding rivers and lakes were contaminated by radioactive materials, but as of today, their radiation level has gone down due to dilution and decay. The countries most affected by the radiation were Belarus, Russia, and of course the Ukraine. Crops, meat, and milk all had radioactive iodine in them which concerned many residents of Chernobyl for the first few months following the disaster, however the iodine decayed quickly, which eased their concerns somewhat. Now the iodine is decreasing much more slowly and still lingers in the food. Nearby sea life, such as giant catfish, mutated and turned black due to the fallout. Within the first few years of the disaster, local wildlife fled due to the weather caused by radioactive fallout. As of now, the wildlife isn’t affected as badly as it was at the time. In conclusion, the Chernobyl disaster had more of an effect on society and the environment rather than animals. The animals that lived near chernobyl know how far to stay to not get affected by the radiation and can live their lives like they used to.

We work with Anti-Human Trafficking co. a non profit organization that targets those who prey on the innocence of young children. Two pressure groups we would like to raise awarness for are the Anti-slavery international group and Abeni. Anti- Slavery International aims to put an end to people who use people from a lower class to provide hard labor(modern day slavery). Abeni is more of an anti- sex slavery pressure group hoping to stop little children across the world being bought and sold as sex slaves. Around the world human trafficking is a serious problem, and we need more groups like this to show them that they are not un touchable. They can be stopped.
Ever since the internet’s conception, it’s grown tremendously, and it shows no signs of stopping. In today’s world, many people use the internet for knowledge, entertainment, and work. Lots of students use the internet for online classes, which provides an easier learning environment rather than going to a lecture class with around 400 people. Since the internet is so huge today, you can search anything and a giant database of information is at your fingertips. One of the reason’s the internet is so huge today is because of social media websites that allow you to talk with millions of people around the world. We’ve all seen websites such as Facebook and twitter gaining popularity. The amount of internet usage in we see in America is typical of many countries in North America and Europe. However, in countries such as South Africa and parts of Asia, internet is very scarce and in North Korea, the internet isn’t available at all. After seeing the internet grow so much over the past 10 years, it only makes you think, what next?
